Two-Factor Authentication

How to enable, configure, and use two-factor authentication to add extra security to your ZippyAssist account.

Written by Zack Swindale

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second layer of security to your ZippyAssist account. When enabled, you'll be asked to enter a code from an authenticator app each time you sign in — so even if your password is compromised, your account stays protected.

What You'll Need

To use 2FA with ZippyAssist, you'll need an authenticator app on your phone. Any TOTP-compatible app works, including:

  • Google Authenticator

  • Authy

  • Microsoft Authenticator

  • 1Password (built-in authenticator)

Enabling Two-Factor Authentication

  1. Sign in to ZippyAssist and go to your Profile (click your name or avatar in the top corner).

  2. Scroll to the Two Factor Authentication section.

  3. Click Enable. You may be prompted to confirm your password before continuing.

  4. A QR code and a text setup key will appear on screen.

  5. Open your authenticator app and scan the QR code. If you can't scan it, enter the setup key manually.

  6. Your app will generate a 6-digit code. Enter it into the OTP Code field in ZippyAssist.

  7. Click Confirm.

Once confirmed, 2FA is active on your account.

Saving Your Recovery Codes

After enabling 2FA, ZippyAssist will show you a set of recovery codes. Save these somewhere secure — such as a password manager — before closing the screen.

Recovery codes let you access your account if you ever lose access to your authenticator app. Each code can only be used once.

You can view your recovery codes again later by going to your Profile → Two Factor Authentication and clicking Show Recovery Codes (you'll be asked to confirm your password).

Signing In With 2FA

Once 2FA is enabled, your sign-in flow will have an extra step:

  1. Enter your email and password as usual.

  2. Open your authenticator app and find the ZippyAssist entry.

  3. Enter the 6-digit code shown in your app.

  4. Click Continue.

If you no longer have access to your authenticator app, click Use a recovery code on the challenge screen and enter one of your saved recovery codes instead.

Trusted Devices

If you sign in regularly from the same device, you can set up trusted devices to skip the 2FA challenge on hardware you recognise.

To configure trusted devices:

  1. Go to your Profile → Two Factor Authentication.

  2. Under Trusted Devices, toggle Enable Trusted Devices to on.

  3. Set the Duration — how many days a device stays trusted before you're prompted again (1–30 days).

  4. Click Update.

To remove trust from all devices at once, click Clear Trusted Devices. You'll be prompted for a 2FA code on your next sign-in from any device.

Regenerating Recovery Codes

If you've used your recovery codes or want to refresh them for security:

  1. Go to your Profile → Two Factor Authentication.

  2. Click Show Recovery Codes to view the current codes.

  3. Click Regenerate Recovery Codes.

Your previous codes will be invalidated immediately. Save the new set before leaving the page.

Disabling Two-Factor Authentication

  1. Go to your Profile → Two Factor Authentication.

  2. Click Disable.

  3. Confirm your password if prompted.

2FA will be turned off and you won't be challenged on future sign-ins.
